The ex-member of the Party of Regions and owner of the NewsOne TV channel Yevgen Muraiev called the Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov, who was illegally imprisoned in Russia, a terrorist, stressing that he had prepared burns and explosions, and that he is a hero only for the nationalist part of the population. Similar statements have outraged not only the users of the network: the Prosecutor General’s Office charged Muraiev with treason. Read more in reactions from Opinion.

It is clear that the vast majority of reactions were rather unanimous. So, the Minister of Internal Affairs  Arsen Avakov decided to be as concise as possible, stating that Yevhen Muraiev was a scum. Oh, Mr. Avakov, you could have said something new.

And if Arsen Avakov decided to abstain tactfully, the head of the press service of the Prosecutor General Larysa Sarhan stated about the entry of the message of Muraiev’s crime on the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. According to Sarhan, the justification for it was the proclamation of the People’s Deputy Pashynskyi’s speech about Muraiev’s unlawful actions. Well, at least like this, thanks anyway.

Avakov’s advisor Zorian Shkiriak was a little more talkative online. In his post, we can see Muraiev from the other point of view, not only as a scum.

The journalist and chief editor of the Internet portal “Censor.Net” Yurii Butusov wrote that if the Verkhovna Rada respected itself at least a little, then Muraiev should not have a deputy mandate. In all fairness, let’s add that Butusov’s message was published long before the statement of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, Irina Herashchenko, said that she required Muraiev apologize to Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners, and added that she refused to be invited to the NewsOne channel in protest.

Herashchenko’s opinion was supported by the People’s Deputy Mustafa Naiiem. He also refused to go to Muraiev’s TV channel until he apologized to Oleh and his family.

The political adviser and former People’s Deputy Viktor Ukolov expressed his condolences to the creative team of Muraiev’s TV channel, as employees are forced to follow the instructions of the new owners.

Instead, the historian and publicist Vakhtanh Kipiani mocked those who decided to boycott Muraiev’s TV channel, because there were many people among such “activists” who had never even been on the air. Instead, Kipiani called the competent public authorities for “flashing”, in particular, the tax authorities, National Council and all those “three-letter abbreviations”.

The journalist Maryna Danyliuk-Yermolaieva admitted that if the Security Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office do not deal with Muraiev, she will not mind if the “unknown patriots” do this. The journalist also reminded of how Mr Muraiev had responded to Arkadii Babchenko’s “death”. In a word, the ex-member of the Party of Regions said a lot of bad things.

The writer Andrii Kokotiukha did not deny the similarity between Mr Muraiev and contraceptives, but added that in reality, quite a lot of Ukrainians supported the views of the ex-member of the Party of Regions. And what to do with this is a matter for the Security Service of Ukraine.

The Political analyst Oleksii Minakov expressed confidence that Muraiev would hardly get acquainted closer with the individual articles of the Criminal Code, since, according to the expert, it is impossible to prosecute for the words. But at the same time, this does not preclude the need to increase personal protection by Mr. Muraiev, because human emotions are stronger than legislation.
