On the first day, films that participate in the competition programs, jury members and star guests were presented. Ada Rogovtseva got the Golden Duke for her contribution to the development of cinema; it was the first award of the 9th Odessa Film Festival. Award was handed over to Ada by actor Eric Roberts. And the opening film was “Woman at War”.
On the second day in the Festival Center was held the press conference on the section “Series!” In which the following persons took part: Director of TV channel “Ukraine” Victoria Korogod, general producer of the “Ukrainian production studio” Iryna Zarya and directors of the series “On the Spectrum” Dana Idisis and Yuval Schafferman. Within this event, works from five countries were presented: “Mother is wrong” (France), “On the Spectrum” (Israel), “The Oil fund” (Norway), “The day” (Belgium), “Who are you?” (Ukraine).
The same day, there was a creative meeting with Eric Roberts, who shared his experience and told about his professional career: “Actor is a profession that makes it possible to develop yourself. I really love homework. Thanks to acting I had to read a lot”.
Gunnar Bergdahl also held a creative meeting. It was devoted to the 100th anniversary of Ingmar Bergman (Swedish theater and cinema director, scriptwriter, writer, one of the leading creators of the 20th century independent cinema).
And in the evening on Potemkin Stairs, a lot of people came to the traditional open-air performance, accompanied by a symphony orchestra. This year it was a black-and-white picture “Safety Last!” (1923) by directors Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor. This year this film turns 95.
The third day a meeting with a famous actress Ada Rogovtseva was held. She told the audience about writing, acting and her family. She also shared the following: “Write the story of your family, your parents, and grandparents. This will allow you to do the most important thing, to listen to them. This is the pure value of family relationships.”
Denis Lavant, French director presented his picture “The Night Eats the World” during the evening show in Green Theater. During his meeting, he told the audience about his experience and shared his own thoughts about the cinema.
Also this day at OIFF the Actor’s Workshop section was opened. This is a special event for actors hosted by the leading professionals. The actor and director Ivan Shvedov became the curator of it. Similar meetings will take place from the 15th till the 18th of July.
The fourth day. Naomi Kawase, Japanese filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer presented her movie “Still the water” at this year’s festival. She held a creative meeting and master classes for the guests as well. “Filming helps me to make this world better,” this thought Naomi shared with her audience.
One of the brightest films of this day were: “Wajib” by Annemarie Jacir and “Tower. A bright day” by Jagoda Szelc. The directors held a press conference and told journalists and guests about their own experience of working on the films.
The film festival only reaches its mid-point, so we are waiting for further meetings, film shows, awards, and winners.
