President Petro Poroshenko vetoed the law, which stipulates limiting the annual volume of harvesting of unprocessed timber 25 million cubic meters at the time of the moratorium on the export of untreated timber and introducing criminal liability for forest smuggling. This is evidenced by the page of the bill number 5495 on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainska Pravda reports.
“(Law) prepares for consideration with the veto of the president. 07/23/2018 returned with the president’s proposals,” – said on the site. Recall that in early July, the Rada adopted a bill “On Amendments to some Laws of Ukraine on the Conservation of Ukrainian Forests and the Prevention of Improper Movement of Raw Timber. Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman instructed the State Service, the DFS, the State Geocodraw and the National Police to inspect forests for illegal logging at a government meeting on July 18. He also signed a petition to the Prosecutor General, Yuriy Lutsenko, on the illegal export of logs.
