During these festive days, when we celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, it’s time for a fashionable columnist to think: how the things are with stylish women? Do we have our own style icons, women, whose style you want to imitate, whose images you want to reproduce?
We like to tell that Ukrainian women – the most beautiful women in the world, that such density of beautiful women, as in the streets of Kyiv or Odesa – there is nowhere else. That’s why, upon arrival in Ukraine, unprepared foreign men can suddenly lose consciousness in the middle of the city from the unbearable quantity of female beauty around.
But at the same time, we like to scold the style of our women, to suffer because of the lack of taste, provincial, outdated aesthetics, the lack of established traditions and inconsistency with modern trends in Ukrainian clothes. And even more, we love to scold our “beau monde”, to blame our stars and politicians for vanity and bad taste.
However, in reality, everything is not so bad with style, and with every year of Independence, it is getting better. Open borders, the modern speed of information dissemination and the availability of world brands of mass fashion in Ukraine lead to the fact that today the style of Kyiv’s youth is not very different from the style of any large European city. And we also have stars, whose taste and talent for a fashionable dress cause at least respect, and sometimes – a real delight. We have talented women, who not only mastered complex creative professions but repeatedly prove with their example how beautiful a woman, that found her style, is.
We will tell you today about some of these wonderful Ukrainian fashion-mongers. Among our heroines are designers, painters, artists and not only them. And the first in our list is…
This 27-year-old girl simultaneously destroys many patterns. She convincingly proved that a girl from industrial Zaporizhzhya can become a famous designer, a curly blonde with fragile features can manage a successful company, dresses of a young Ukrainian brand can be sold in fashionable capitals of the world and in leading online stores of luxury clothes, they can be willingly worn by the world top-bloggers and fashion stars.
Anna’s own style translates the same aesthetics as her brand’s style, and it’s not surprising. Delicate, romantic dresses, rich colors, playful lightness, with which the real strength of character is visible.
Another young Ukrainian designer is the founder of The Coat brand, which attracted the attention of the leading fashion magazines in the world. Before plunging into the fashion industry, Katya has achieved a great success in ballroom dancing, so she knows exactly what the hard work is behind the grace of dancers, behind the apparent ease of smooth movements and graceful silhouettes.
In her own style, as well as in the style of her brand, Katya strives for that casual charm, natural femininity, and elegance that hides a lot of work on the cut, the selection of colors and combinations. And the better this work is done, the more is the feeling that it is easy and simple.
One of the first famous designers of the times of Independence, Victoria Gres has been creating Ukrainian fashion for more than 20 years. Incredible combinations of classics and modernity, nostalgic notes of vintage with actual colors and materials are the hallmarks of her collections.
And the style of Viktoriya herself can be considered a model of modern classics. Always impeccably elegant, she masterfully creates understandable, simple and easy to perceive, but incredibly exquisite images. Not everyone succeeds to find this point, which intersects the preferences of the general public and fastidious tastes of fashion experts, and Victoria Gres is one of these few!
Iryna Danylevska can be considered the Godmother of the Ukrainian fashion industry, in the autumn of 1997 she has started and since then heads the Ukrainian Fashion Week, which at that time was the first Week of pret-a-porter fashion not only in Ukraine but also in Eastern Europe as a whole. Now she’s also the president of the Ukrainian Fashion Council, the founder and head of a number of projects, aimed at the development of Ukrainian fashion.
Iryna Danylevska has the opportunity to be one step ahead of the mass fashion, what she will wear today, thousands of women will wear tomorrow. At the same time, she manages to maintain the ideal balance between fashion trends, personal style, and classical elegance requirements and not become a typical fashion victim, but to look always dignified, appropriate and exquisite.
The artist Oksana Levchenya-Konstantynovska in the interview to one publication noted that she is not interested in fashion, doesn’t follow trends and chooses clothes considering its quality and the time that it could serve. An absolutely unusual concept in our time, when we used to buy things here and now, because we wanted to, and wear them at least several times until we want something new.
But, perhaps, in this familiar relation to consumption, there is a certain key to real taste. Because Oksana looks always stylish and very modern, her outfit does not draw attention to itself and allows to consider the main thing in any image: a woman.
Art critic, a specialist in contemporary art and art manager Katya Taylor is one of the faces of the Ukrainian cultural process. It seems that there is no really important event in the field of fine arts, in which she would not have been involved. It is she, who works to make the space around us more aesthetic and advanced.
And by the way, Katya Taylor does it by her own example. Her informal, relaxed but incredibly stylish outfits can be stretched to quote and give out in textbooks on the modern style. She is the object of the fine arts in the best, most constructive sense of these words.
Young director Tonya Noyabryova recently unveiled her debut full meter “The Hero of My Time” at the Odesa International Film Festival – and immediately won the prize for Best Director. Agree, not every filmmaker can boast that success has come to him or her this way, from the first steps.
But apart from creative achievements, Tonya Noyabryova can also boast of a great talent for fashionable clothes. Among the many monotonous photos from social events, in which women are equally dressed, they show the same artificial smiles, it is the photo of Noyabryova that is always like a flash – bright, real, full of colors and interesting style messages. And her smile is always real and alive!
The actress of theater and cinema Nataliya Vasko is known to the general public for roles in popular television series, and the capital theater-goers for performances in Kyiv theaters. But Nataliya is interesting for our fashion review, because of the flawless images that she chooses for the red carpet.
Looking through the reviews from the solemn events, you can be sure, the eye will stop without fail on the photo of Nataliya Vasko. Exquisite, but restrained dresses, modern hairstyles, harmonious and appropriate images from the top of the head to piles on her heels. Not every Ukrainian actress and artist gets to the goal with every shot, the more valuable the example of Nataliya is.
The TV host and the honorary ambassador of the United Nations on Population Issues Masha Efrosinina every time gets to the lists of the most beautiful, stylish and other most-most Ukrainian women, and not in vain. In addition to absolute beauty, Masha has a wonderful taste, but also a natural, unconstrained charm that you cannot buy for the money, and you cannot even imitate with the help of the most modern beauty technologies.
Equally beautiful she looks in trendy, fashionable clothes, in modern classics, in democratic denim, and in evening dresses. It convincingly proves that in our time there is no fashion for youth and “adults”, there is only one’s own personal style and that, which is suitable for a woman.
The singer, the winner of Eurovision, one of the brightest stars of modern Ukraine, Jamala is struck not only by the phenomenal vocal gift but also by her own unique style. Her stage costumes are bright, bold, not ordinary, but they never betray a good taste, don’t show excess and draw attention more to the personality than to the body.
The style in which Jamala appears outside the scene is the style of a modern young woman, active, interesting, with good taste, but without any hints of something to emphasize her stellar status. Jamala is not going to prove with her outfit to anyone that she is a star. And it is the best proof that she is really a star!
In this review, we tried to recall women of different professions, different ages, different looks, in order to prove that the style does exist in Ukraine, and it is not measured solely by age, weight or fortune. Also, we want to note that there are much more stylish women with good taste in Ukraine than we could fit into this review. And many of them are not public figures, media doesn’t cover their life, but their stylish outfits and wonderful smiles adorn our cities every day. Just go out and take a good look!
