In Istanbul, the meeting of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church started. As reported by RIA Novosti, the meeting takes place at the residence of Bartholomew in the Istanbul quarter of Fanar.
The bishops and members of the Holy Synod of the Church of Constantinople also take part in the event, since the meeting of the priests actually coincides with the beginning of the meeting of the bishops of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which lasts, as a rule, for several days.
According to the Russian news agency Interfax, both sides have so far refrained from promulgating the agenda of the meeting, saying only that they will discuss “bilateral issues of interest.”
However, numerous observers expect the current meeting to discuss the establishment of the United Local Church of Ukraine.
