The General Staff strengthened the Armed Forces group on the Azov direction, including the Ground Forces, in response to the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation in the Sea of Azov. The commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Serhiy Popko, announced this, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
“To this end, we are taking steps to ensure full control over the situation in the region, support the actions of the ship’s group, provide reliable coastal defense,” Popko said. “We will organize permanent presence and control of the district by the forces of the joint brigades and brigades of territorial defense, units of missile troops and artillery, units of the military aviation,” he added.
Recently, Russia has blocked foreign vessels that were going to Ukrainian ports on the Azov Sea, effectively blocking this trade route. Ukrainian border guards said that the Russians “began a tough policy of detention and inspection of ships” in the Kerch Strait.
