President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree from the National Security and Defense Council to terminate the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia, the president’s press service reported, UATV reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will now inform Russia that Ukraine intends to terminate the Treaty, signed on May 31, 1997, in accordance with Article 40. It will then submit a draft law to the president for consideration. Also, the Foreign Ministry must inform the United Nations, the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe and other international organizations.
