The term of office of the OSCE’s Special Monitoring Mission (OSCE) Deputy Chairman Oleksandr Hug will end on October 31. He told about this in an interview with the Russian edition Kommersant.
“The OSCE is not a career organization, working in its structures can be no longer than 10 years. I have reached this limit and therefore I leave my post,” he said. Hug expressed regrets that “the work accomplished by the mission shows that the parties to the conflict in the Donbas did not fulfill even the basic promises that were given under the Minsk agreements.” At the same time, he believes that the mission managed to contribute to the containment of the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine, and the conflict in the Donbas could be stopped very quickly: “If there was political will, the security situation in the region could be stabilized”.
