Kamianets-Podilskyi, Chortkiv, Zhytomyr and Lviv have approved the full transition to renewable energy sources by 2050. This is reported by DW.
The relevant memorandum was signed by these cities with the 350.org NGO.
New energy plans and city’s climate strategies will be integrated into existing programs. Participation in this agreement will give cities access to international funds that will help finance transformation.
The regional coordinator of the 350.org organization, Svitlana Romanko, recalls that there are cities in the world that have already completely switched to green energy – Swiss Basel, Icelandic Reykjavik, American Barlington, and dozens of others which are “on the straight line.”
“Electric transport, buildings with adapted materials, zero emissions, solar collectors on the roofs, wind power plants at affordable locations, heat and power plants, converted to biofuels, LED street lighting,” she describes as an ideal city with 100 percent renewables.
