Member of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Metropolitan of Austria and Exarch of Hungary Arsenios states that the decision on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be adopted “when it is time”. As the correspondent of Radio Liberty reports, he said this on the sidelines of the meeting of the Synod, which is the second day in Istanbul.
“We talked about tomos. The decision will be made when the time comes, but the Ecumenical Patriarchate has the right to make such a decision”, said Metropolitan Arsenios.
When asked about relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, which opposes the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Arsenios stated, “We do not want to create new problems, but with God’s help we will act in such a way that everything is peaceful, as He desires.”
