Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin is convinced that the Moscow Patriarchate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC-MP) is based on a violation of canon and usurpation, and it has nothing to do in Ukraines. The minister wrote it in his blog posted in Ukrainska Pravda online edition on Thursday.
“The Moscow Patriarchate has nothing to do in Ukraine, since it is the canonical territory of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the UOC-MP is historically based on a violation of the canon and is the result of usurpation,” Klimkin wrote.
Klimkin, referring to the great archival material recently published by Constantinople titled “The Ecumenical Throne and the Church of Ukraine – the Documents Speak,” added that the Ukrainian church de jure never ceased to be the canonical territory of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
“As a nation, we have lived for three centuries in a false reality, seeing as normal what was actually the result of deception and usurpation, imagining ourselves not to be those who we are in reality,” the diplomat said.
He is confident that Tomos about autocephaly once and for all will resolve all disputes regarding canonicity, for it will be provided by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which is the only one that has the final word in all disputed issues of the Orthodox world.
