The EU Council has approved a new sanctions regime in response to the use and distribution of chemical weapons. This is stated in the message of the Council of the EU, writes UNIAN.
As it is noted, this introduction of a new sanctions regime was a direct consequence of the decision of the European Council on June 28 this year. “Now the EU can impose sanctions on individuals and organizations involved in the development and use of chemical weapons anywhere, regardless of their nationality and location”, said in a statement.
As reported, the legal regime, based on the proposals of France and Great Britain, is intended to prevent the re-use of chemical weapons by Russia and Syria.
