Ukrainian director and political prisoner of the Kremlin, Oleg Sentsov, this Thursday has won the Sakharov Prize of the European Parliament. Sentsov became the first representative of Ukraine in history who became a laureate of this award, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
Oleg Sentsov was nominated for the Sakharov Prize by the European People’s Party (EPP), the largest faction in the European Parliament. The award ceremony will take place on December 12 in Strasbourg.
The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is the annual award of the European Parliament. It was founded in 1988 and is awarded in 4 areas, in particular in the field of protection of human rights and its fundamental freedoms.
