Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan, who is suspected of illegally enriching and declaring inaccurate information, took away his foreign passports which were withdrawn as a precautionary measure, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
“I only took my passports today because I was physically on a business trip”, said Omelyan. He and his lawyers are currently reviewing the case file.
On November 6, NABU and SAP stated that they had completed the investigation of a criminal proceeding against Omelyan. The SAP was informed that they did not plan to sue the petition for the extension of the preventive measure for Volodymyr Omelyan. Investigators believe that “in 2015, while being the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, an official acquired assets, the legitimacy of the grounds for which is not proved by evidence and whose value far exceeds his legal income.” In particular, Omelyan allegedly bought a SUV BMW X5 2015 release. The car, according to the minister, belongs to his brother.
