Advisor to the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, Edward Fesko, emphasized that the UN Security Council should be truly reformed since under the current conditions it cannot guarantee peace and security in today’s conflicts. He stated this during a speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, reports Ukrinform.
“It is obvious to all that the Security Council, in its current form, is badly suited to effectively address the challenges of the 21st century. Until the UN postpones the reform of the Council, people are killed simply because the current Council is powerless to help them”, Fresco said. He stressed that Ukraine focuses on two aspects – representation in the Eastern European regional group and the need to review the role of the veto in the work of the Council.
