President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko appealed to the leadership of the Russian Federation to release Ukrainian sailors and ships detained in the Kerch Strait, UNIAN reports.

“I appeal to the leadership of the Russian Federation to demand the immediate release of Ukrainian servicemen who, in violation of international law, were brutally detained and whose fate is unknown,” the head of state emphasized at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.

“We demand that they are immediately handed over to the Ukrainian side along with the ships and urgently descaltation of the situation in the Azov Sea as a first step, and de-escalation in other directions,” the president said. The Head of State said he expects a quick reaction to his appeal.
