As of January 2019, the state budget of Ukraine had a deficit of 12.3 billion hryvnia against the 7.9 billion hryvnia surplus a year earlier. It is reported in the presentation “Macroeconomic review”, posted on the official website of the Ministry of Finance.
The deficit was financed through domestic borrowing. Thus, in January, the Ministry of Finance placed domestic government bonds equivalent to 41.7 billion UAH, including foreign currency government bonds in the amount of 587.4 millionUSD and 33.3 million EUR. Also, the Finance Ministry reminded that January’s borrowings under the guarantee of the World Bank in the amount of 17.6 billion hryvnias were postponed to February.
