The European Language Union, as the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest, has calmly perceived the fact that Maruv would not represent Ukraine this year.
In a statement on this fact, the EBU outlined the arguments of the National Public Broadcast Company of Ukraine in this regard. In particular, it is noted that UA:PBC and the singer who won the national election for Eurovision did not reach agreement on the mission of the participant while the performer is the ambassador of Ukraine and represents not only music but also the views of Ukrainian society. Also, a national broadcaster is obliged to ensure the non-political character of the competition – and the National Broadcast Company of Ukraine is afraid of the escalation of the split in Ukrainian society.
As expected, UA: PBC will start negotiations with another candidate to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision-2019 on Tuesday, February 26.
