People’s deputies from the party “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” Iryna Gerashchenko (first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, extra-factional) and Maria Ionova (deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on European integration, member of the BPP faction) registered a bill envisaging mandatory TV debates of candidates to the post of President of Ukraine before the second round of presidential elections and withdrawal of registration of a candidate in case of his non-participation in these televised debates.
According to the document posted on the Verkhovna Rada website, this bill suggests introducing appropriate amendments to the law “On Elections of the President of Ukraine”. In particular, part five of Article 11 (“5. If necessary, the election process may include the following stages: …”), it is proposed to add a new paragraph with the following content: “conducting mandatory TV debates”.
As you know, the election of the President of Ukraine will take place in 10 days – March 31, 2019. In the case of the second round of elections, the by-voting should take place on April 21, 2019. The current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, according to sociological surveys, is among the three leaders of the electoral campaigns.
