The law “On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection” came into force strengthening the social protection of the participants in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence in the 20th century. According to the final provisions, it comes into force three months after its publication.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law recognizing all the soldiers of the OUN-UPA as combatants on December 6, the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On December 22, the president signed it, and on December 26 the normative act was published in the newspaper “Voice of Ukraine”.
According to him, the participants in the fighting recognized “persons who participated in all forms of armed struggle for Ukraine’s independence in the XX century, consisting of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the Ataman Taras Borovets (Bulba), the Polissya Sich, the Ukrainian People’s Revolutionary Army (UNR), the armed units of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, and in accordance with the law “On the Legal Status and Honoring the Memory of the Fighters for the Independence of Ukraine in the 20th Century” were recognized as fighters for the independence of Ukraine in the 20th century.”
