WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was detained by the London police. It is reported that he was detained at the embassy of Ecuador.
“The ambassador of Ecuador invited the police to the embassy and there they detained Julian,” the statement reads.
Earlier it was reported that Assange is going to be extradited from Britain in a week.
In 2017, the CIA director Mike Pompeo, who now heads the US State Department, said that WikiLeaks is “a non-government hostile intelligence service that is often supported by governmental actors like Russia.”
Assange received asylum at the embassy in order to avoid being extradited to Sweden, where the authorities wanted to interrogate him as part of an investigation into a sexual assault. Later, this investigation was closed, but WikiLeaks fears that the United States wants to pursue him.
