The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said that he did not know about the involvement of his closest associate and deputy head of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction in the Verkhovna Rada – Ihor Kononenko in corruption schemes in the energy sector. Poroshenko told about this in an interview with Radio NV, writes Radio Liberty.
Previously, journalists from the program Schemes: Corruption in Detail (a joint project of Radio Liberty and the TV channel “UA: First”) released phone conversations with Kononenko, discussing a scheme for the withdrawal of hundreds of millions of hryvnias from state energy production companies. At the request of journalists they were verified by American experts that are working with the US government.
When asked by the journalist of Radio NV about the investigation of Schemes, Petro Poroshenko only assured that he himself did not know about any fraud and was not involved in it. He transferred responsibility for a lengthy investigation to law enforcement.
“If we talk about the case, which is now presented in the energy sector – it happened in 2015. Four years – for what they were looking for?” – he says.
