The Lefortovo District Court of Moscow extended the term of detention for Ukrainian sailors. Thus, the court granted the petition of the FSB investigators of the Russian Federation. The prosecution asked to extend the arrest, stressing the need to obtain the results of examinations.

The defence has stated that Ukrainians are prisoners of war and should be released. The party of defence also has said that seizure was the fact of aggression on the part of the Russian Federation.

Seamen themselves did not answer any questions other than name, age, and title, noting that they were prisoners of war under the Third Geneva Convention.

Recall that on the morning of November 25, 2018, Ukrainian ships and raiding tugs planned to leave the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. During this task, the Russian ship rammed the Ukrainian tug and damaged it. When leaving the Kerch Strait, Russian ships fired and captured the Ukrainian ships on the Kerch Strait. In total, there were 24 Ukrainian soldiers on the three ships, two of them are officers of the SBU. Three of them were injured.
