The Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, supports direct dialogue between the leader of the presidential race in Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. An appropriate commentary on Volcker’s position is in the NewsHour program of the American Public Broadcasting Service PBS.
In particular, Volker stressed that Zelensky strongly supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and wants to return the territory captured by Russia.
“I think that what he said about the conflict and his approach is absolutely correct at the moment, he strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, he wants to return the land, he is not going to give up,” Volker said.
The United States representative said he considered it right to hold direct talks between Zelensky and Putin. At the same time, Volker did not specify what negotiations meant – with or without the participation of intermediaries.
