Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on a simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of the occupied regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As stated in the text of the decree, such a decision was made by the President of the Russian Federation “in order to protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen”, on the basis of “generally accepted principles and norms of international law”, in accordance with Article 29 of the Federal Law No. 62 of May 31, 2002 “On RF Citizenship”.
