The winner of the presidential election, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that after joining the office he would analyze the law on the Ukrainian language for observing all the rights of citizens. This is stated in his comments and relayed on by the “Ze! Team” press service.
“After my appointment to the post of the president, a thorough analysis of this law will be carried out to ensure that it meets all the constitutional rights and interests of all Ukrainian citizens. According to the results of the analysis, I will react in accordance with the constitutional powers of the President of Ukraine and in the interests of citizens,” Zelensky said.
According to him, the draft law on official language was considered during the electoral cycle, “which made him a hostage to political rhetoric.”
“The law was adopted without a sufficiently wide public discussion, and more than 2 thousand amendments were introduced to the draft law, which indicates the lack of agreement on some of its provisions, even in the Verkhovna Rada. Today it is difficult to predict the consequences of adopting this law – its final text, taking into account all amendments are currently unavailable,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, Zelensky stresses that the Ukrainian language is the only official language in Ukraine.
