Honorary Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Filaret said that he wouldn’t have nominated Epiphanius as the pastor of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine if he had known that he would “take the wrong paths.” He stated this at a press conference on May 15.
“If I knew what was happening, I wouldn’t have nominated him. I trusted that he would take the right path, but he failed. I am bewildered because I trusted him one hundred per cent. If I hadn’t fought for him at the Synod, he wouldn’t have been the head,” the Patriarch said.
He also stated at a press conference that Epiphanius might be protected. In particular, Filaret said that it is not Epiphanius who manages the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, but it is he who is managed.
