The trilateral Contact Group on peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas at the next meeting will discuss the proposal of former President Leonid Kuchma to lift the economic blockade from the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
This was announced on Wednesday by OSCE Special Representative for TCG Martin Sajdik.
“The proposal came from Mr. Kuchma, and it was supported by participants from the occupied territories, which will be considered in the economic subgroup next time,” Sajdik said to journalists on Wednesday in Minsk.
According to the special representative, lifting the blockade could become a “big breakthrough”. At the same time, Sajdik noted that the introduction of the occupied territories’ blockade in the spring of 2017 was the factor that contributed to the “breakup of the parties”.
