The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a Law that amends the legislative acts on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons who participated in the protection of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. 230 people’s deputies out of the required 226 have voted in favor of law № 3433.
It is noted that the document amended the Laws of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons” and “On the Citizenship of Ukraine”.
In particular, the amendments to the Law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons” defined the term “participation in protecting the territorial integrity of Ukraine” with regard to foreigners and stateless persons who provided practical assistance to the units involved in the antiterrorist operation. The law also recognizes foreigners and stateless persons who have participated in protecting the territorial integrity of Ukraine as legally residing in the country and has been given the opportunity for such persons to obtain a residence permit during their participation while they are protecting Ukraine.
The document provides for restrictions on the voluntary or compulsory return of such foreigners and stateless persons to the aggressor state or countries that do not recognize the territorial integrity of Ukraine or support aggression against Ukraine.
