Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin stated that Ukraine could join the European Union in 2035.
According to Klimkin, if the mood within the EU is balanced, the Balkan countries will successfully integrate in 2025, then after that Ukraine will have a real chance to get a European perspective.
“It is ambitious but possible. I would remind you that this requires the consent of all EU member states, so by that time we have to really jump over the heads to change Ukraine and Ukrainians,” Klimkin wrote. Then, he said, the pre-accession talks would begin.
If we analyze the retrospective of the enlargement of the EU in recent years, from the moment of applying for membership until the moment of obtaining membership it took an average of 10-12 years.
Recall that at the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Ukraine-Poland-Lithuania, which ended on June 8 in Kyiv, the parties signed a final document containing an agreement on the strategy of 2025 and 2027 as a period for possible Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
