The press service of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine responded to Filaret’s loud statements regarding the rejection of Tomos and the convening of a Synod.
In particular, the statement of the OCU reads that the text of Tomos was known few months in advance, while Filaret says that there was no opportunity to get acquainted with the content.
“The very text of Tomos became known more than 5 months ago. It does not fundamentally differ from a number of similar Tomoses, given in the past to autocephalous Local Churches. Consequently, the proclamation of only negative assessments, which is completely controversial and contains propaganda against Thomos voiced by the Moscow Patriarchate. Thus, it leads to profound disagreement in the Church and society,” the statement reads.
The press service also reports that the UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate as a separate religious association ceased its activity by joining the local OCU: “By the decision of the Local Council of the UOC-KP, the activities of the statutory bodies of association and the validity of the Articles of the UOC-KP were terminated.”
“The Honorable Patriarch Filaret has no right to convene on his own the” Local Synod of the UOC-KP,” either under the Charter of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, or even under the terminated Charter of the UOC-KP.
Therefore, we urge all hierarchs, clergy and believers who wish good for the Church and Ukraine not to take any part in events and actions that destroy the unity of the Local UOC,” summed up the press service.
