Ukrtransgas sent an official proposal to the Moldovan authorities to use the capacities of the Ukrainian Gas Transportation System in order to refuse direct supplies of Russian gas. It is reported by the press service of Ukrtransgas.
The Ukrainian company made a corresponding proposal due to the delayed construction of the gas interconnector between Moldova and Romania, through which Moldova intended to buy gas. Due to the delay in the construction, the government has to start new negotiations on the purchase of gas in Russia.
“For more than three years Ukraine has been supplying its natural gas needs without Gazprom. Thanks to the possibilities of the Gas Transportation System, Ukraine imports all the necessary amount of gas from the EU. Moldovan suppliers with the help of the Ukrainian Gas system can use a similar approach that will enable Moldova to independently import gas from the EU if necessary,” the Ukrtransgaz said.
Ukraine also offered Moldova to create insurance reserves of gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities.
