Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia Ihor Dolhov left the speech of Russian deputy Sergey Gavrilov yesterday during the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy in Tbilisi in protest.
“I will comment only on the wills of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. All Ukrainians want their own church, and what we know and what we have received is a hard opposition from Moscow,” Dolhov said.
Asked how he would appreciate the fact that Russia is the chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, the ambassador said that this decision depends on the members of the organization.
“Russia occupied the territory of Ukraine and continues to fight today. Now we have one dead and four wounded soldiers. For us, Russia is… Christian religion and church are peaceful existence, not the occupation of territories,” added the ambassador.
Today, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was interrupted: the opposition, and afterwards, representatives of the ruling party also objected to the participation of Gavrilov in the forum.
“Russian MPs do not have seats in the Georgian parliament! This conference should immediately stop, and members of the State Duma of the RF – have to leave the parliament and Georgia,” said the leader of the parliamentary majority, Archil Talakvadze.
