During the summit, the leaders of the European Union once again urged Russia to release Ukrainian sailors seized in November last year as well as to return ships.

“The European Council again urges Russia to release the captured Ukrainian sailors, to return captured vessels and to ensure the free passage of all vessels through the Kerch Strait in accordance with international law.”

Recall that the international tribunal has satisfied the key requirement of Ukraine on the interim measures to be taken by Russia. The court ordered Russia to immediately release Ukrainian sailors and allow them to return to Ukraine.

Instead, the Foreign Ministry of Russia assured that the Tribunal had no right to decide the fate of captive sailors.
