All suspects in an assassination attempt on an Odesa activist Oleh Mykhailik were released from custody – two of them were released under the round-the-clock home arrest, and another doesn’t have a preventive measure at all.
Judge of the Kyiv District Court of Odesa Yuliia Feduleyeva decided not to continue the arrest for Tornike Gerasin and Manuchar Varshanidze.
Both suspects were detained since September 2018. The third suspect, Tornike Gerasin (Nagladze), who has a disability of the 1st group, was placed under home arrest in November 2018. The judge made such a decision after many petitions, in particular, from the side of the Georgian Consulate, due to Nagladze’s severe health condition.
The case of the assassination attempt on activist Oleh Mykhailik was transferred to Kyiv at the end of 2018 due to the complaints of the victim and the suspects but was returned to Odesa again.
“The case was transferred to Odesa, in order to remove all responsibility for complete failure and simply to pass the buck. Responsible for this failure will be a prosecutor or an investigator in Odesa, who will be made a scapegoat,” said Mykhailik.
Recall that Oleh Mikhailik was shot at the end of September 2018. Three suspects were arrested a few days after the assassination. However, Mikhailik and his lawyer Vadym Oksyuta claimed that they did not believe in the involvement of three arrested citizens of Georgia.
