In the Simferopol investigatory detention centre, where Crimean Tatar activist Edem Bekirov has been held, there is an epidemic of measles. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ombudswoman Liudmyla Denisova.
She underlined that patients with measles are placed in the medical unit where Edem Bekirov is located. At the same time Bekirov is not suffering from measles, but “due to the lack of immunity the likelihood of his infection is very high.”
“Given the critical health of Edem Bekirov, his further stay in the insulator is extremely dangerous,” Denisova wrote.
According to the Ombudswoman, she appealed to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatyana Moskalkova, with the request “in pursuance of the decision of the ECHR to hospitalize Edem Bekirov without delay to a non-prisoner hospital”. Moskalkova has not yet publicly responded to this statement.
