The court of Kyiv cancelled international and national search of the editor-in-chief of “Strana.ua” Ihor Guzhva.
The chief editor of Strana.ua was arrested in June 2017 in Kyiv. Also, the editorial office was searched, a flash drive, which allegedly contained documents with a state secret was removed.
Guzhva is suspected in extortion of a bribe of 20 thousand dollars for non-disclosure of information.
On June 27, 2017, he has left the detention centre on 544 thousand hryvnias bail.
On January 31, 2018, it became known that Guzhva travelled to Vienna and asked for political asylum. He stated that 5 criminal proceedings against him were opened, which could charge him up to 7 years’ imprisonment. At the same time, he remains the editor-in-chief of the publication.
On February 12, 2018, the Ukrainian court declared Guzhva wanted.
On October 1, 2018, Guzhva stated that Austria had granted him political asylum.
