The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs recommended that the Parliament suspend the participation of the Permanent Delegation in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) until the conclusions of the Venice Commission.

“We propose to stop the work of the Ukrainian delegation in the PACE to the conclusions of the Venice Commission and recommend not to resume work to fulfill the most important points that have been in all the resolutions adopted by the PACE over the past five years”, – said the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE Volodymyr Ariev at a meeting of the committee.

He stressed that Russia should without any conditions release captured Ukrainian sailors and political prisoners.

The Committee also urged the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy to withdraw the invitation to PACE observers for the snap parliamentary elections in Ukraine on July 21.
