The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine insists that the Verkhovna Rada is not obliged to invite the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe as election observers in Ukraine.
“In previous years between the Verkhovna Rada and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, there were friendly, partnership relations that can’t be characterized this way right now. When there were confidence and mutual respect the PACE observers were invited to the elections in Ukraine, “said Kateryna Zelenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She stressed that Ukraine does not violate any of the documents of the Council of Europe that are obligatory for implementation.
“The Assembly, in its rules of procedure, noted that they are observing the elections. But it is not clear that the parliament is obligated to invite them to elections as observers. To date, there are no appeals from this agency in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and whether they are in Verkhovna Rada or the CEC, we do not know,” she added.
