Leaders of the Opposition Platform – For Life party Yuriy Boyko and Viktor Medvedchuk visited Moscow on July 10, where they met with Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev and the leadership of Gazprom.
According to Boyko, the talks concerned, in particular, the “supply of Russian gas” to Ukraine.
“We have almost finished the preparation of a contract for the purchase of Russian gas directly 25 % cheaper than it is now through the so-called virtual reverse, which is a significant relief both for the economy and for people, and for lowering utility tariffs, and in general, lower prices for the country. During August, this contract will be signed,” said Boyko.
At the same time, in June 2019, Andrii Kobolev, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian energy company Naftohaz, commenting on Boyko and Medvedchuk’s earlier statements on supposedly more profitable Russian gas, said that the price of imported gas from Europe for July was about 178 dollars per cubic meter.
At the same time, the price under the contract with Gazprom is 315 USD, therefore, summed up Kobolev, even a 25 % discount does not make direct purchases of gas from Russia more profitable for Ukraine.
Russia’s prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, in turn, expressed support for the Opposition Platform – For Life party’s willingness to resume a “political dialogue between the Ukrainian and Russian parties,” which is currently “bogged down”.
“Unfortunately, despite the presidential election, we have not yet received any clear signals about what course the new president will be. Of course, we are waiting for the results of the elections to the Verkhovna Rada. Hopefully, it will more than reflect the aspirations of millions of Ukrainian citizens. Again, I would like to say that we, as people who sympathize with the ideas expressed by Opposition Platform – For Life, wish you success in this regard,” said the Kremlin politician.
