The past week seems to have dropped the masks of decency. In Boryspil, Zelensky has changed the role of a comedian to another one – of a hard and tough politician. It was during this period of transformation that Vladimir Putin came down to the Ukrainian president. All the details of the conversation are not disclosed, but Mr. Volodymyr has a great purge of “predecessors” on his mind. The analysis of how red this flag is – in the traditional digest from Opinion.
NewsOne TV channel that belongs to Viktor Medvedchuk’s business partner and the Russian propaganda channel Russia24 came together to hold a teleconference titled “We need to talk”. It was planned that Maria Sittel and Andrey Malakhov will be the hosts from the Russian side and Olena Kyryk and Vasyl Holovanov – from the Ukrainian side. The teleconference was announced by one of the main Russian propagandist Dmitry Kiselev.
After that, the Security Service of Ukraine convened an extraordinary meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and imposed sanctions against the legal entities that broadcast under the logos of NewsOne and 112 Ukraine TV channels, and the Prosecutor General’s Office registered proceedings on attempted state treason by means of providing informational support for subversive activities against Ukraine.
“The involved ones – from the owner of the channel to the host who made the announcement – are called for interrogation. A submission to the court on the seizure of assets is being prepared,” he said.
In addition, Yuriy Lutsenko said that one of the beneficiaries of the Ukrainian TV channel NewsOne is a co-owner of the Russian Promsvyazbank, through which the defense orders of the Russian Federation is funded.
A protest action was held on Monday evening under the office of NewsOne TV channel, which planned to hold a teleconference with the Russian TV channel Russia24. Two hundred participants threw flares and firecrackers at the territory of the channel.
The president Volodymyr Zelensky called the teleconference cheap, but dangerous PR, the users of social networks called for a boycott of the channel.
After that, NewsOne TV channel announced the cancellation of a teleconference with Russia, and its owner – the people’s deputy Taras Kozak called the words of the Prosecutor General Lutsenko about NewsOne’s bonds with the Russian bank “a cynical lie”.
The channel’s staff added that NewsOne’s journalists and their families are threatened physically. And the general producer of the channel Vasyl Holovanov said that “the teleconference was planned as a journalistic project without politics”.
Without politics and with the announcement from Dmitry Kiselyov. Sure thing.
The Odesa court completely justified the mayor Hennadii Trukhanov. He was accused of taking 185 million hryvnias from the local budget through the purchase of the building of the bankrupt plant Krayan for an inflated price.
The court stated that there were no violations that would indicate that the officials had caused losses to the budget, and the prosecutor’s office had not proved the guilt of the defendants. Also, the court recognized a number of the proofs provided by the party of charge, in particular, the examination of the valuation of the building, inadmissible. The notices of suspicion to Trukhanov and other involved persons are recognized illegal as, according to court, they were made by the investigator who wasn’t authorized to do it. The court also decided to return the bail that was deposited by some of the defendants as an alternative to detention in jail and abolished the previously imposed seizure of property, including the property of the mayor. The prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office were not present in court at the time of the verdict.
All participants in the process are justified.
Prosecutors hope that the appeal will be considered by the newly created Anti-Corruption Court, but according to the president Zelensky, it will not start its work before August. Therefore, the acting head of Odesa will most likely not be thrown into jail.
But while one mayor rejoices with his good luck, another one blushes with shame. But for himself or for the president – that’s the question.
In Boryspil, the president Volodymyr Zelensky forced the secretary of the Boryspil City Council Yaroslav Hodunok to leave the official meeting, after finding information about his criminal record.
“When people shout too much, I always ask to find something on the Internet about them. I’ve read in the newspaper – tell me if it’s true or not. A member of Batkivshchyna party, the secretary of the Boryspil City Council, was previously convicted for part 3 of article 142 of the Criminal Code – ‘robbery with the infliction of serious bodily harm’. Mr. Yaroslav, is that you?”
“Get out of here. Get out of here, you bandit. Can you hear me? I’m asking you, is that you? You can shout at the District Administration building, not here,” said Zelensky, when Hodunok started to argue, and said, “Exit… Get lost, for God’s sake.”
Yaroslav Hodunok stated that he would sue the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky if he doesn’t apologize for his statements publicly. But after the reporters found information that Hodunok was indeed involved in the robbery attacks as a member of the notorious “Berkut” special forces division, he decided not to sue the head of state.
“It will pass the other day,” said Hodunok. But will the shame for the president who dares to curse when the microphones are on a pass?
The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the president of Russia Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation for the first time since the election of the Ukrainian President. The speaker of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov was the first to declare it. At first, the office of the Ukrainian President denied it, but later admitted the fact that the conversation took place.
“The conversation was held on the initiative of the Ukrainian side,” the Russians stated in their message.
“The key issue was the release of the captured sailors. They also talked about the return of other Ukrainian citizens held in the territory of the Russian Federation. In addition, the parties discussed the continuation of negotiations in the Normandy format,” the President’s Office said.
The Kremlin is currently considering the proposal of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to meet with the Russian President Vladimir Putin in Minsk. But Putin agreed to meet at the negotiating table only after the parliamentary elections.
Apparently, this festival of ideas from politicians began after the recommendation of Putin. Zelensky canceled the military parade on Independence Day and offered to lustrate the officials of the era of his predecessor Poroshenko. Is this populism? Perhaps, but the ratings of “Servants of the People” keep going uphill – it is supported by 47% of those who intend to vote and determined their favorites. According to the sociological group Rating, the level of trust to Volodymyr Zelensky is 65% (27% do not trust him).
The second place is taken by the pro-Russian party Opposition Platform – For life (11.6%) headed by Viktor Medvedchuk, who really wants to hold a teleconference with Russia.
The party European Solidarity (8,2%), the party Voice (6.6%) and Batkivshchyna (6.4%). 3.6% are ready to support the party Strength and Honor, 3.2% would vote for Opposition Bloc, 2.8% would support the party Groysman’s Ukrainian Strategy, 2.5% would give their votes to the Radical party, 2.1% – to the All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda. The ratings of other political forces are less than 2%.
Think? It’s no longer relevant. Vote!
