The European Parliament has supported a resolution on Ukrainian political prisoners who are illegally detained in Russia and annexed Crimea. As reported by the Ukrainian delegation to the EU, 458 deputies voted for the resolution, 80 against, and 89 more abstained.
“The resolution of the European Parliament concerning Russia, especially the situation with environmental activists and Ukrainian political prisoners has been adopted! Russia must immediately release the Ukrainian political prisoners! Thanks to partners for their support!” the representation stated.
The deputies also urged the RF to immediately and conditionally release Ukrainian sailors and ships captured during an armed provocation in the Kerch Strait region in November last year.
In addition, the resolution contains an amendment recalling the tragedy of the MN17 flight and the conclusion of the international investigation team on the perpetrators of the crime. Russia was urged to acknowledge its responsibility for the tragedy and to cooperate with the investigation.
