Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement on the return of 24 Ukrainian sailors, prisoners of war, from the Russian Federation. This was stated by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.
“The agreements to return the seamen have already been reached, there are decisions of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Now, the latest documents are being drawn up, I think that we will meet the sailors in our homeland soon,” Denisova said.
At the same time, the lawyer of sailors Polozov told that he was not aware of such an agreement.
“I can say that negotiation is in progress, but at which stage it is going to be implemented in practice I do not know because I do not take part in them. If any procedural steps are taken, as for the execution of documents, we will know about it because in the absence of lawyers sailors will not sign them, but nobody has said anything so far,” said the lawyer.
According to Polozov, since July 23, Russian so-called “investigation” over captive sailors has ended and seamen and defense have provided access to the materials of the “criminal case” in the Russian Federation for familiarization.
