Following the introduction of trade restrictions on coal supplies to Ukraine by the Government of the Russian Federation, imports fell to 85.3 % per month.
According to the Central Control Directorate of the Fuel and Energy Complex of the Russian Federation, exports of Russian coal to Ukraine in June decreased by 85.3 % (or 750 thousand tons) – to 129.3 thousand tons. Within six months, deliveries decreased by 11.1 % (or 556 thousand tons) to 4.9 million tons.
According to the trade sanctions of the Russian Federation, in order to continue to supply coal to Ukraine, Russian producers need to obtain a “special permit” which is issued for a period of 1 month.
It is noted that some of the Russian coal continues to be supplied through the territory of Belarus, thus avoiding the need for special permits. This is evidenced by the increase in the supply of coal from Belarus to Ukraine.
