The US Treasury Department has announced that it is imposing additional sanctions on Russia as part of measures under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Destruction Act. As Voice of America reported.
In order to impose sanctions, the US Treasury Department of Foreign Assets has issued a separate order concerning Russia. The ordinance will come into force on August 26, 2019.
On August 2, the US State Department announced on its website the introduction of a second sanction package on Russia because of the poisoning of a former intelligence officer, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter, Julia, in the United Kingdom.
The sanctions will come into force on August 19. They stipulate that US banks will not be able to participate in the initial sale of sovereign debt, not denominated in rubles, and provide loans to the Russian government. The United States also intends to continue to impede financial or technical assistance from Russia from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
