Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko stated that the Security Service of Ukraine had concealed interrogation materials that could increase the number of suspected assaults on Kherson activist and official Kateryna Handziuk.
“Just yesterday it became clear that the testimony we were expecting from the witness was already in the SSU, but it wasn’t in the case, the interrogation was hidden. I received a report about it today. In the testimony of a witness, citing another person, it is said that punishing Katya was decided at a meeting where there were other people besides Manger,” Yuriy Lutsenko said.
At the same time, the SSU called Lutsenko’s statement about allegedly hidden interrogation materials in the Handziuk murder case false.
“An interrogation of a witness who revealed that, according to another person, they was aware that options for unlawful, including violent, influence on Kateryna Handziuk were discussed in Kherson in July 2018 with the participation of several persons, was held on March 5, 2019. The SSU investigators and operatives immediately began checking these and other important circumstances, which the witness also reported,” the SSU press center said.
The Security Service claims that the said minutes of the interrogation of the witness were annexed to the criminal proceedings on suspicion of the chairman of the Kherson regional council Vladyslav Manger and Oleksiy Levin (Moskalenko). Criminal proceedings, including a copy of the witness’s report, were read to the defense party, the SSU added.
«The statement of the Attorney General of Ukraine, distributed on the Internet, is false. The Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, continues to take all possible and necessary measures to ensure a prompt, complete and impartial investigation into the circumstances of the attack on Kateryna Handziuk,” the SSU said.
