It is trendy to not be trendy or 10 fashion trends of this autumn

We have become accustomed to the fact that fashion catwalks have not offered anything fundamentally new for a long time. All the main ideas and styles of women’s clothing have been developed in the 20th century. In our time, fashion can either offer something absolutely crazy and not wearable, or recycle old motifs and pull ancient silhouettes on the globe of modernity.

But this year, designers have not just once again stolen something from the experience of previous generations. No, they went back to the basics completely: from head to heels, from the first to the last letter. To such fundamental, proven, repeatedly used images that you can safely wear them somewhere in Paris of the 70s – and look there like a very, very good girl. Perhaps somewhat a little too good.

All these stylistic solutions, which we considered long ago hopelessly outdated, all these short blouses on top of a closed wool dress, sweaters with modest skirts to the knee, silk scarves around the neck, long shirts collars on top of the sweater – it’s such a touching retro, not modern and not trendy to the extent that you can wear it for a costume movie shoot. About some fabulous reality of the Soviet women in science, for example. Or some other exemplary metropolitan intelligentsia. Of course, real Soviet women in the vast majority could not even dream of such outfits, but the art council of the studio would approve such costumes for sure. It’s all highly moral, modest, dignified and corresponds to the proud title of the Soviet women. Except for the open toes in the shoes on the right and the sneakers on the left.

Another fashion trend that even the chairman of the village school board would certainly like is lozenge-patterned sweaters. It is such a traditional British classic that it has long been a classic of the world. And it has already stuffed everyone’s mouthes so securely, that for a while it was appearing on the catwalks only on the fashion socks. Well, this season the lozenge patterns have returned to where we used to see them decades ago – on sweaters and cardigans. It can be fantasy things that combine traditional print with a complex cut. But also, it can be absolutely predictable, simple lozenge-patterned camisoles. Those who are not aware of fashion trends might think that you dressed up in a thrift shop. How would they know that this “thrift shop clothes” are now on the world’s main catwalks?

The third trend is not so ancient but also has its roots in the 60s of the last century. It was then thanks to the light hand of Yves Saint Laurent that the most desperate Parisian fashionistas began to wear pantsuits. For that time, it was a real revolution, the male image has not been shown in a woman so frankly yet. In our time, a pantsuit is no surprise, after all, it’s been half a century. And pantsuits have been trending for several years. Therefore, if you have already purchased it, feel free to wear it in the new season!

And if you’re just thinking of getting a pantsuit, note that the silhouettes of jackets become more fitted. Therefore, if you do not really see yourself in somewhat “baggy” loose-fitting jackets that were popular last season, you can pay attention to more feminine options. And you can just belt your jacket. Because belts are one of the main trends of the season. It is trendy to belt everything. Suits, dresses, sweaters, even coats. The accentuated waist is perhaps the number one trend this year.

But do not hurry to hide the “male” silhouette as well. Accented, extended shoulders in the style of the 80s also remain relevant. Designers return to the old, well-forgotten shoulder pads. They increase shoulders even on sweaters and knitted dresses. Put on a loose male cut jacket of “strict” suiting fabric with broad shoulders and add a printed dress or flowery skirt to it. And you are the star of street style!

Satin silk is, certainly, a very feminine and romantic trend. Its noble glossy texture has made combination dresses so popular that they haven’t been going out of summer trends for several seasons in a row and, it seems, will soon acquire the status of a basic thing that is out of fashion. Now glossy satin entered the autumn-winter wardrobe. Do you ask how to wear it if you do not winter in sunny Italy? In our conditions, you can wear satin dresses in winter as the bottom layer, combining them with long sweaters, cardigans, as well as with “men’s” jackets from the previous paragraph.

Another trendy texture is gold. Designers do not hesitate and add the shimmering gold fabric to relaxed casual images. They add gold skirts to everyday sweaters and golden blouses to modest office skirts. You can do too. As well as all your last year’s lurex, sequins and all other sorts of sparkle and shine – they are still trending and they also can be worn every day, not only for the big celebration.

But this is a celebration season for those who love all kinds of stockings and tights. For a long time, designers and fashion gurus kept them in the status of the main fashion sin and did not hesitate to offer to walk with bare legs even in winter. A rather foolish offer for our climate. In recent years, colored and fishnet tights began to gradually return to the catwalks. But this season has already rehabilitated even the traditional translucent black tights, a favorite option of office workers. And dotted stockings, leopard print, and many other options. Perhaps these fashion solutions are too radical for most women. But the ability to wear normal black tights and not feel like a fashion delinquent, and conversely, feel like a fashion thingy is priceless.

And let’s talk a little about prints. Last winter season was a triumph of the plaid pattern, this season it is trendy to combine several checkered prints in one outfit. The idea may not be liked by everyone, and implementing it yourself with those things that are already in the closet is not an easy task. But ready-made solutions, where the designer has already mixed checkered fabrics for you in a good proportion and harmonious colors can be useful. If you are ready for fashion experiments.

The last trend that I want to draw your attention to is patchwork. Dresses, sweaters and even coats, as if sewn from several different color and texture details will be very popular this season. Of course, if your favorite style is minimalism, these fashion pranks are not for you. But I suggest paying attention to patchwork to fans of boho eccentricity or experiments. Such a sweater can be worn endlessly, combined with simple jeans, with romantic light skirts, with satin dresses mentioned above, with classic trousers from a pantsuit and with a bunch of different things. And you will always be a stylish thingy.

Is it worth to run to the store and buy all the fashion trends of the season now? Of course not. It is necessary to process and digest all of this now. And only then decide on what trends you should start your fashion adventure, and which of them should wait for you at home.
