The G7 countries have not reached a consensus on Russia’s return to the G7, but the summit host country may invite it as a guest. This was stated on Monday by French President Emmanuel Macron.

“Decisions to expand the number of participants are taken by consensus,” he said at a press conference following the G7 summit in Biarritz, adding that there was no such consensus.

At the same time, Macron emphasized that the organizing country of the summit has the right to invite guests to it, in particular – leaders of the non-G7 countries. “The host country may invite people, but only as guests,” the French president said.
