People’s deputies of the ninth convocation have taken an oath at a solemn sitting of the Verkhovna Rada. The oath was traditionally read out by the oldest elected People’s Deputy Yuriy Ioffe (number 12 in the list of the party Opposition Platform – For Life).
“I pledge allegiance to Ukraine. I pledge all my actions to defend the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, to care for the good of the Motherland and the welfare of the Ukrainian people. I swear to abide by the Constitution of Ukraine and the laws of Ukraine, to perform my duties in the interests of all compatriots,” read the text of Yuriy Ioffe‘s oath.
Now, elected deputies have to sign the oath until 2 pm, get certificates and badges. Then, they register to attend the first session of the new parliament, which is scheduled for 1 pm.
