The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has pre-adopted a resolution on removal of parliamentary immunity. 363 MPs voted for the decision.
The bill provides for the removal from Art. 80 of the Constitution of Ukraine the article with the title of “People’s Deputies of Ukraine are guaranteed parliamentary immunity” and a norm according to which “the People’s Deputies of Ukraine cannot be prosecuted, arrested or arrested without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine”.
At the same time, another article of the law will continue to hold that MPs will not be held legally responsible for the results of voting or expression in parliament and its bodies, except for liability for insult or defamation.
